How do I get rid of net nanny without the password?

My new computer has net nanny and I can’t get the program un-installed without the password. I need to do college in the spring and I will not be able to use the computer effectively. I can’t even access common Health Websites.

For the record: I’m not a child, and I am not trying to be rebellious and change my parents computer. I am definitely old enough to not be babysat on the computer
frontdoor doesn’t work

When net nanny was installed the installer (be it your parents or the manufacturer) was prompted to enter in a password that is used for uninstalling. So you will have to contact the manufacturer if your parents did not install it and get the password from them.

Mental Health Interventions with Preschool Children

Mental Health Interventions with Preschool Children

$139

Preschool children have been largely neglected in the mental health treatment literature, although research has established that many behavioral and emotional disorders in children result from events occurring during the preschool years or are first manifested during this period. This has occurred for several reasons. Traditional psychoanalytic thinking has considered preschoolers to be too psychologically immature for complete manifestations of psychopathology, and the limited language abilities of young children have complicated assessment procedures and made them less appropriate for treatment approaches that are largely verbal in nature. In addition, the developmental complexity of the preschool period has deterred many researchers from investigating clinical issues with this age group. Partly as a result of the lack of information on preschoolers in the literature, practitioners have historically been uncomfortable in conduct ing assessments and initiating treatment with young children. They have often adopted a ‘wait and see’ attitude in which formal mental health diagnosis and treatment are not implemented until after the child’s entry into school. Unfortunately, such a delay may mean wasting the time during which mental health interventions can be maximally effective. Recently, this attitude has changed and practitioners now recognize the need for assessment and treatment of behavioral and emotional disorders early in life. What they require to assist them in the timely delivery of such services is information about assessment and treatment procedures specifically designed for preschoolers and with demonstrated efficacy with that age group.

Canadian Child Health Law: Health Rights and Risks of Children

Canadian Child Health Law: Health Rights and Risks of Children

$183.85

This book is the first analysis of the law in Canada pertaining to the health of children. It reflects the collaborative effort and concern of four national centres a Centre de recherchA(c) en droit public; Canadian Research Institute for Law and the Family; Canadian Institute of Child Health; and the Canadian Human Rights Foundation. The book begins with a factual picture of the health of Canadian children a the causes of disability, injury and death, the types of programs and policies in place and the success of such programs. It then examines the impact of public international law as it applies to the right to health generally and the implications of its interpretation for the right to health under the Convention and under current Canadian constitutional and criminal law. The possible recourse to the Convention for a positive or restrictive interpretation of this right under the common law of Canada or the civil law of Quebec are the focus of separate chapters. The final chapter is a discussion of the difficult question of research involving children.

Children of Immigrants: Health, Adjustment, and Public Assistance

Children of Immigrants: Health, Adjustment, and Public Assistance

$9.15

Immigrant children and youth are the fastest-growing segment of the U.S. population, and so their prospects bear heavily on the well-being of the country. Children of Immigrants represents some of the very best and most extensive research efforts to date on the circumstances, health, and development of children in immigrant families and the delivery of health and social services to these children and their families. This book presents new, detailed analyses of more than a dozen existing datasets that constitute a large share of the national system for monitoring the health and well-being of the U.S. population. Prior to these new analyses, few of these datasets had been used to assess the circumstances of children in immigrant families. The analyses enormously expand the available knowledge about physical and mental health status and risk behaviors, educational experiences and outcomes, and socioeconomic and demographic circumstances of first- and second-generation immigrant children, compared with children with U.S.-born parents.

Medicating Children: ADHD and Pediatric Mental Health

Medicating Children: ADHD and Pediatric Mental Health

$49.63

Why and how did ADHD become the most commonly diagnosed mental disorder among children and adolescents, as well as one of the most controversial? Stimulant medication had been used to treat excessively hyperactive children since the 1950s. And the behaviors that today might lead to an ADHD diagnosis had been observed since the early 1930s as "organic drivenness," and then by various other names throughout the decades. Rick Mayes and his coauthors argue that a unique alignment of social and economic trends and incentives converged in the early 1990s with greater scientific knowledge to make ADHD the most prevalent pediatric mental disorder. New movements advocating for the rights of children and the disabled and a massive increase in Medicaid spending on psychotropic drugs all contributed to the dramatic spike in ADHD diagnoses and stimulant use. "Medicating Children" is unique in that it integrates analyses of the clinical, political, historical, educational, social, economic, and legal aspects of ADHD and stimulant pharmacotherapy. Thus, it will be invaluable to educators, clinicians, parents, and policymakers, all of whom are trying to determine what is in the best interest of millions of children.

Did you know that: -Ear infections are usually treated with antibiotics, but there are at least five homeopathic remedies that can be used without any side effects? -Chamomile can soothe teething pain? -Ginger and fennel tea can be used instead of expectorants to loosen a stubborn cough? -A daily dose of acidophilus, a beneficial bacteria in yogurt available in supplement form in health food stores, can help control acne breakouts? -Eucalyptus or peppermint essential oil added to a vaporizer can be used instead of over-the-counter cold remedies to unblock sinuses and relieve congestion? -Vitamin C, combined with bioflavonoids, can act as a natural antihistamine to combat hay fever–without the drowsiness of over-the-counter brands? The Mental Health of Children and Adolescents: An Area of Global Neglect

The Mental Health of Children and Adolescents: An Area of Global Neglect

$109.99

Around the world, a vast number of children and adolescents suffer from mental and neurological disorders and only a small proportion of them receive adequate care. This is so in both developing and developed countries. The need to raise awareness about this problem and provide specific advice regarding their prevention and treatment was identified as a priority for the World Psychiatric Association by Professor Ahmed Okasha during his Presidency of the Association and resulted in the creation of his Presidential Programme on Child Mental Health. This book presents some of the fruits of this programme and constitutes a global call to action for mental health workers and policy makers. "The Mental Health of Children and Adolescents: An area of global neglect" brings together information on the burden of mental disorders in childhood and adolescence with methods of raising public awareness of these problems. The book also describes therapeutic and preventive interventions that could diminish them. It then presents the results of field studies in Brazil, Egypt and Russia documenting the effectiveness of interventions to prevent school dropout in those three very different countries. With its emphasis on practical guidance for the development of interventions to prevent or treat child and adolescent mental health, "The Mental Health of Children and Adolescents: An area of global neglect" provides much-needed information of direct interest to health professionals and the many others involved in the provision of health care to children and adolescents in both the developing and the developed countries.

International Perspectives on Children and Mental Health [2 Volumes]

International Perspectives on Children and Mental Health [2 Volumes]

$35.17

In "International Perspectives on Children and Mental Health," expert contributors from around the world examine the forces affecting the psychological well-being of children in regions worldwide. They consider such factors as family conditions and economic status, including single parents, poverty, disease, war, child abuse, substance abuse in the home, and a loss of community stability. And they look at political, religious, national, and global matters, including racism and class inequality. Since education is key to children’s success, the essays consider these factors largely in the context of how they affect educational readiness and academic adjustment. Volume 1 of the set considers development and context, while volume 2 focuses on prevention and treatment. Specific examples enable readers to better understand the often-horrific challenges to child development and mental health across nations. But the work is not limited to exploring problems. It also looks at various programs and actions that mitigate risks, helping children to be mentally healthy despite the odds.

Women and Children in Health Care: An Unequal Majority

Women and Children in Health Care: An Unequal Majority

$3.95

The ideal of equality constitutes a criterion for assessing current practice through attention to differences among individuals and groups. Inequality occurs when irrelevant differences are invoked in order to secure power or advantages over others. This book examines health care issues from an egalitarian perspective, focusing particularly on those that affect the lives of women and children. These are some of the most hotly debated, controversial, yet genuinely humanitarian issues of our time. They include gender stereotypes in medicine and in adolescent socialization, fertility curtailment and enhancement, coercive treatment during pregnancy, fetal tissue transplantation, decisions regarding newborns, decision-making by minors, the feminization of poverty and its impact on women’s and children’s health, and the meaning and role of "family" in health care decisions. The book describes a case-based or "feminine" model of reasoning as appropriate to the health care setting, but also as a possible rationale for exploitation of women. Different versions of feminism are clearly explained and specifically related to care-based reasoning. To overcome the pitfalls of paternalism and excessive stress on patient autonomy, a concept of "parentalism" is defended. An egalitarian perspective, the author claims, involves use of one’s power to empower others. Because of the timeliness of the topics discussed, and the depth of detail, this book will be necessary reading for all bioethicists, health-care analysts and policy-makers, and women’s studies researchers.

Handbook of Children with Special Health Care Needs

Handbook of Children with Special Health Care Needs

$349

Children with chronic conditions, developmental disorders, and birth defects represent a sizeable minority of American children—as many as one in five. Often their families have financial or other issues limiting their access to appropriate care, thus limiting their adult prospects as well. Compounding the problem, many valuable resources concerning this population are difficult to access although they may be critical to the researchers, practitioners, and policymakers creating standards for quality care and services. In response, the Handbook of Children with Special Health Care Needs assembles research, applied, and policy perspectives reflecting the range of children’s problems requiring special services. Widely studied conditions (e.g., communication disorders, substance abuse) and those receiving lesser attention (e.g., tuberculosis) are covered, as are emerging ideas such as the “medical home” concept of continuity of care. Its interdisciplinary outlook makes the Handbook of Children with Special Health Care Needs a vital, forward-looking text for developmental psychologists, pediatricians, early childhood and special education researchers and practitioners, disability researchers, policymakers, and advocates, and providers for children with special health care needs.

Pet Loss and Children: Establishing a Health Foundation

Pet Loss and Children: Establishing a Health Foundation

$4.44

Explaining the concept of death to a child is a very difficult, confusing, and uncomfortable experience for a parent, educator, or therapist, and it is a topic that is often first introduced by the loss of a pet – sometimes a child’s earliest exposure to loss and grief. There is an undeniably special bond that develops between people and their pets, especially between animals and young children, and while the death of a pet can be devastating to an adult, children are often deeply affected by such a loss. Without readily available outlets for their feelings, the trauma of pet loss can remain with a child for life, and without help many adults feel inadequate and not up to the task. The aim of this book is to provide therapists, counselors, educators, parents, social workers, veterinarians, and physicians with resources to help children cope with the loss of a pet.

Ethical Issues in Mental Health Research with Children and Adolescents

Ethical Issues in Mental Health Research with Children and Adolescents

$5.86

Studies involving children with mental, emotional, or behavioral problems–or their families–have to meet certain standards of research ethics. This book contains chapters on the kinds of ethical dilemmas that typically occur in different types of studies of children, and then presents 65 real-world cases from experts who study children’s mental health. These experts offer practical suggestions for how to handle these dilemmas. Chapters on the perspectives of parents, regulators, and bioethicists provide additional points of view on these issues. Written in down-to-earth language, this book will be useful for professionals who study children, for those who train students in research methods, and for parents who are thinking about participating in research studies. In attempting to bridge the apparent gap between ethics and science, the editors close this volume on a note commonly sounded by researchers: more research is needed. Yet in this area, a new kind of research is required. The science of scientific ethics must be developed and expanded, and better understanding of the determinants and circumstances under which children can comprehend and evaluate risks and benefits is needed. Likewise, fuller knowledge of the contextual factors affecting children’s and families’ consent to participate in research is essential. In particular, development of scales to assess children’s ability to comprehend risk-benefit issues, studies of families’ reactions to research procedures, and empirical data on the impact of various forms of participant reimbursement will advance both science and ethics. This volume should spur further research, serving as a guide for current investigators, participating families, institutional review boards, and policymakers who shape the research enterprise.

These important new essays show how changing patterns of health and disease have responded to and shaped notions of childhood and adolescence as life stages. Until the early 20th century, life-threatening illnesses were a sinister presence in the lives of children of all social classes. Today, many diseases and threats to child health have been eliminated or alleviated. Yet critical problems remain. New threats such as AIDS and violence take a steady toll. Child health remains an active concern for all families. Despite the development of health care policies, social welfare policies, and effective medication, the home remains–as it was in the Colonial period–the most critical site of care. Parents are still central to the preservation of children’s health. This work imposes a holistic view of this experience for children and families. By examining the child’s perspective of illness, the authors make an important contribution to the understanding of illness as part of the developmental process of growing up.

Teaching Children about Health: A Multidisciplinary Approach

Teaching Children about Health: A Multidisciplinary Approach

$22.16

TEACHING CHILDREN ABOUT HEALTH takes a case study approach and is written especially for the elementary classroom teacher. The goal of this text is to help teachers become more knowledgeable about and comfortable with health topics, to be more reflective in their practice of teaching about health, and better equipped with activities for incorporating health subjects into their curriculum. Each chapter considers health from a physical, social, and emotional perspective, acknowledging the mind-body connection. The authors include topics that are relevant in children’s lives using a wellness/preventive health model. In addition, each chapter provides activities that can be integrated into several disciplines found in most elementary-school curricula. This text is meant to provide elementary school classroom teachers with the incentive and knowledge base they will need to include interdisciplinary lessons about the various health content areas in their daily teaching. It recognizes that since most elementary-school programs do not have separate health education experiences for students, and since these are the primary learning years, it is the responsibility of the classroom teacher to initiate learning about health.

Oral and General Health Promotion for Children: A Holistic Approach

Oral and General Health Promotion for Children: A Holistic Approach

$75.5

Inequalities in oral and general health have been rising globally; WHO calls for adoption of an integrated approach to their promotion as both share common risk factors. However, research about this issue among children is scarce. Based on the associations of such a research found in common for all Turkish and Finnish children, this book underlies that oral health is turning out to be part of the global health culture, regardless of cultural differences and different oral health care systems. The book, further, by most recent literature, provides a review of ‘Significance of Oral Health, Concept of Oral and General Health Promotion, Health Behavior Theories and Children’.This book provides further evidence that children’s general and oral health are interrelated by common lifestyle and family factors, and both should be supported by holistic health promotion strategies and empowerment of families to adopt healthy lifestyles, both in economically developing and developed countries. This book should be especially useful to researchers, professionals in dentistry and medicine, policy makers, and anyone else involved in provision of better health to community.

Faiths in Their Pronouns: Websites of Identity

Faiths in Their Pronouns: Websites of Identity

$77.63

The pronoun is the very mother tongue of thought. Family, friends, kind and race, nation and society, the clamant "us" and "ours" of collectives, boil down to the "I" and "You" and "They," which are the transacting pronouns of all human discourse. Languages like English name their pronouns as if serving notice of an imperial habit – "I" and "Thou." Semitic tongues are more ethical and refer to "the speaking one" and "the absent one." Heirs of Greek and Latin are innocent of the subtle discriminations that are mandatory in Asian languages where the speaker is alert for social distinctions in the use of forms and pronouns. "Pronouns" are well styled, for they function on behalf of rights, powers, claims, dignities and demands. Acquisitive and discursive, they take guard on the frontiers of personality, transacting the business of existence. In every way, then, pronouns are the essence of religion: their usages dictate the liability of religious faith. Their handling is a sure clue to the idiom of a temple’s creed or ritual. The aim of this book is to search the liability for pronouns as religions use them, and to discuss the doctrines and the institutions that enshrine "we" and "us" and "ours" in the "why" and "how." To "consult the web" is a fair imagery for pronouns’ purpose. If the web is society, the transactable world, then the pronouns – I, we, us, ours, they, thou, you, them – come into their own in our keyboard encounters. Extending the metaphor, the net allows pronouns to intercept meaning, and to substitute for lack of clarity in argument. Pronouns are the counters in the commerce of religions – "Thou" the address of worship, "We" the community of faith, and "Who?" the perennial question in the interrogation of faith. Faiths in Their Pronouns comes to the themes of religion and literature through use of the pronoun in the sundry dialects of belief, by way of their questing rites and answering convictions.

Children & Disasters

Children & Disasters

$4.64

When disaster strikes, survivors suddenly find themselves in a world that has become confusing and unfamiliar. Such traumatic events impose severe psychological strain on every member of a community, but children are a particularly vulnerable group requiring special attention. Children and Disasters addresses the needs of this specific population by examining the impact of major disasters on the mental health and emotional functioning of children. The programs described in this book are designed to provide early intervention to children and families undergoing stress reactions to a catastrophic event. The authors offer interventions aimed at enhancing the skills of mental health professionals, educators, and peer counselors in responding to the intensified demands of disasters. These intervention approaches provide information regarding the event itself, reinforce the legitimacy of the anxieties and fears that children and their families are experiencing, and encourage the expression of feelings in group and individual settings (for the younger child, through drawing and play). Furthermore, they build on the coping capacity of individuals and theirs families and provide concrete coping skills and techniques to alleviate stress reactions. The intervention model can be applied to programs for individual children and their families, multi-family groups, and groups for children in mental health, educational, and community settings. The practical "hands-on" approach to program design makes this book an attractive resource for mental health professionals, social workers, rehabilitation specialists, professional and volunteer counselors, and suicide intervention workers. It will also be useful for school personnel, including teachers, school counselors, and administrators, as well as federal and state emergency planners and coordinators.

His every act is mirrored and magnified in events that sway the course of national affairs; his health and well-being are inextricably bound to those of his nation; his life is inseparable, at times indistinguishable, from the history of his country. Perhaps most remarkable are the telepathic powers linking him with India’s 1,000 other "midnight’s children," all born in that initial hour and endowed with magical gifts. This novel is at once a fascinating family saga and an astonishing evocation of a vast land and its people-a brilliant incarnation of the universal human comedy. Twenty-five years after its publication, Midnight’s Children stands apart as both an epochal work of fiction and a brilliant performance by one of the great literary voices of our time.

Health and Poverty

Health and Poverty

$3.95

Unequal social and health care policies in the United States continue to keep the poor disempowered in situations that not only limit their access to health care services, but also the quality of care they receive. An overview of health policies in the U.S., Health and Poverty examines where gaps in social and health care policies exist at the federal, state, and municipal levels; the impact of economic recessions on health care; and how our health policies are inextricably linked with political agendas, economic priorities, and social and cultural values. In an attempt to bridge issues of health, such as health care and administration costs, with issues of social and health policy related to poverty in America, this important book explores the need to make fundamental change to the structure of the medical and health care system. It contends that the incremental modifications our government has taken have not changed regional and economic disparity, granted equal access to services or equal quality of care, or eliminated discrimination. Providing the political and economic context for understanding health care policy issues and concerns related to the poor, Health and Poverty discusses: services and programs that achieve more humane outcomes why our cultural values present the greatest challenge toward developing competent, accessible, and affordable health care for all U.S. residents barriers to health care for the homeless population with HIV patient dumping how many African-American infants and children lack access to primary care physicians or services how the U.S. focuses on who receives medical care, rather than on how medical care is delivered and received trends in states’Medicaid programs the impact of poor working conditions on the physical and emotional health of low-income minority populationsAs Health and Poverty demonstrates, universal health care can only become a reality in the U.S. when reform proposals that divide the public into the "deserving" and the "undeserving" are rejected. Health care is not a privilege, reserved for the middle class and the wealthy. It is a basic human right. Social workers, policymakers, health care educators and providers, and public administrators need to read this book to find out how that right can be guaranteed to all Americans and why current legislation and health care reform proposals are inadequate for meeting the health care needs of countless men, women, and children.
